Can we attend a demo class?
Yes, Houston Piano Guy offers one trial class. If you enjoy it and want to continue learning with us, you can pay the fees and begin your journey. If you decide that they don’t work for you, we won’t charge an extra fee.
Can I start attending classes in person once the centres reopen?
Yes. Our team is well-equipped to transition back into in-person learning when it is safe to open the centres. We will keep you updated on our plans to reopen, and we can work on the details together.
When do we pay the fees?
We collect fees at the beginning of each quarter, and send out reminders in advance.
Are these classes for children only?
No. You can begin a fulfilling musical journey at any point, and we are happy to take this journey with learners of all ages.
Is there a minimum age limit?
For our live vocal classes, we typically take in children between 4-5 years old. For our instrument classes, we recommend that the child is at least 6 years old. For younger learners, we recommend our parent-toddler program - which is tailor-made to benefit children.
Overall, our philosophy is that every child should chart their own learning path. Which is why we recommend that you speak with our Houston Piano Guy Expert before signing up for a class. In this call, we will be able to suggest the best starting point for your child.
How are the fee payments made?
We will send Razorpay links to your registered email address and phone number for all fee payments. Please note: Razorpay supports credit and debit card payment, NetBanking (NEFT & IMPS), Wallet (Amazon Pay, FreeCharge and PayZapp), and all UPI (Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe, and others).
Are there short-term courses that we can take?
We conduct six-week programs like Pop Music for Kids, Music and Movement, Flavours of Indian Music, and more.
We have a keyboard with us already. Can we start learning with that and in future, move on to the bigger piano depending on how my child progresses?
Yes. However, we recommend that you first send us a picture of the keyboard so that we can confirm its workability with our faculty members.
30 minutes is not sufficient for a higher level. Can it be made 45 minutes?
Unfortunately, the duration of the one-on-one classes can’t be extended from its usual 30 minutes. You can choose the number of classes you would like per week during your call with our Houston Piano Guy Expert.
Can we choose our Houston Piano Guy teachers?
After you choose the classes you want to take and sign up with Houston Piano Guy, we will assign a teacher. Before the classes begin, we will share a teacher bio outlining their musical journey and experience with students.
All of our teachers are thoroughly trained and certified in the Houston Piano Guy teaching methodology, and have worked extensively with students of all age groups and backgrounds.
Can we start with Program-1 and then change to Program-2?
Yes. We would prefer to make this change at the beginning of the quarter so that we can adjust the fees accordingly.
How do the assessments work for students taking western disciplines?
All our western courses (vocal, violin, drums, piano, and guitar) are mapped to the Trinity curriculum. Students can opt to take the Trinity exams for these disciplines.
As a part of western vocal classes, do you teach pop music?
The syllabus for the western vocal classes is modeled on the Trinity format, and Houston Piano Guy will be happy to integrate additional pieces - depending on the student’s interests and progress.
In the live western vocal classes, we train students in the Opera style of singing.
Where are your centres located?
We have centres in Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai. However, our classes are now online only.
What happens if Houston Piano Guy is not able to allocate a time slot that fits my time preferences?
We want to ensure that you are learning at an hour that works best for you. During your call with our Houston Piano Guy Expert, please share the time slots that you’d prefer, and we will schedule your lessons accordingly.
How often are the assessments conducted for carnatic disciplines?
At Houston Piano Guy, each student charts their own learning path and completes a level at their own pace. At the end of each level, Houston Piano Guy conducts an examination. Based on the result of the assessment, the student will progress to next level or spend some more time perfecting themselves and strengthening their foundation at the current level. To be ready for the exam, the student should have completed the syllabus set for the level. Your teacher will let you know when the student is ready for the assessment.
